What Is Retaliation?
Retaliation is the act by which an overseer or supervisor punishes a subordinate in reaction to a subordinate’s action. While punishment may be an appropriate response in cases of employee transgression, it is illegal when an employee has brought forth a legitimate complaint or allegation against a supervisor. Retaliation is commonly caused by:
- Allegations of sexual harassment
- Official complaints
- Allegations of discrimination
