Similar to the Equal Pay Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (or ADEA) bans age-based discrimination in the workplace. The following actions are specifically banned under the ADEA:
- Advertising the job as being specifically for an applicant of a certain age, unless age truly is vitally important to the job
- Apprenticeship programs which discriminate on the basis of age
- Denying benefits to older employees, except in certain very specific circumstances
