What Is the Equal Pay Act?
The Equal Pay Act – or EPA – was passed in 1963 to address unfair inequities in pay between men and women performing the same job responsibilities. As outlined in the EPA, employers must adhere to the following directives:
- They cannot reduce the wages of either sex to equalize pay
- A violation may occur even if the employment of the man and woman are not concurrent
- A violation may occur if a labor union is responsible for the pay inequity
